Matthew DeGroff's Introduction

After almost 14 years of incarceration, I have learned the meaning and value of friendship. Solid, lasting friendships are built on trust and autonomy, seeing the beauty in the perspective of another, and seeking to understand how they view the world. I have found solace in my recovery of 10+ years, which has allowed me to quiet my mind, so that I can deeply listen to others. I have been actively taking self-help programs since 2012, which have fundamentally changed who I am and my direction in life. Because of this transformation, I have been fortunate to facilitate many classes and aid others on their journey. I am currently in training to be a State Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. My mission is to foster success in the lives of those who struggle with addiction as I did. These days I am pretty easy going and really appreciate the small comforts in life. I like to laugh and have fun, but also focus intently on helping others. I love cooking shows and someday would like to take the culinary arts up as a hobby. I miss hiking, playing with puppies, and enjoying life with someone close. I really look forward to connecting with new people and expanding my worldview. I hope to travel again, relishing in the beauty of culture and cuisine around the world, but if not, I am content settling down to a home-cooked meal and enjoying the silence in the gaps.
